“Dying then living for love.”
Let us proceed to a study of this day’s septenary or 7-fold geometric model of the Sabian symbols, which constitutes a mandala of 360 astrological degrees as developed by Dr. Marc Edmund Jones in collaboration with and channeled by Elsie May Wheeler in the spring of 1925.* Additionally, by utilizing the ancient esoteric writing, The Emerald Tablet, Tablet III by Thoth, we adopt a ready and constant framework for our deeper reflections. The chakra system is also made available for the additional insights it may provide; the geometric designs provided are based on the work of Frank Chester and may be used to cut out and assemble a Chestahedron for meditation.
Thoth: All eyes do not see with the same vision, for to one an object appears of one form and colour and to a different eye of another. So also the infinite fire, changing from colour to colour, is never the same from day to day.
Man is a star bound to a body, until in the end, he is freed through his strife. Only by struggle and toiling thine utmost shall the star within thee bloom out in new life. Wisdom cometh to all her children even as they cometh unto wisdom. All through the ages, the light has been hidden. Awake, O man, and be wise.
Before the Lords of hidden Amenti learned I the wisdom I give unto men. Masters are they of the great Secret Wisdom, brought from the future of infinity’s end. Seven are they, the Lords of Amenti, overlords they of the Children of Morning, Suns of the Cycles, Masters of Wisdom. Formed are not they as the children of men? Three, Four, Five and Six, Seven, Eight, Nine are the titles of the Masters of men.
Far from the future, formless yet forming, came they as teachers for the children of men. Live they forever, yet not of the living, bound not to life and yet free from death. Rule they forever with infinite wisdom, bound yet not bound to the dark Halls of Death. Life they have in them, yet life that is not life, free from all are the Lords of the ALL.
Forth from them came forth the Logos, instruments they of the power o’er all. Vast is their countenance, yet hidden in smallness, formed by a forming, known yet unknown.
THREE holds the key of all hidden magic, creator he of the halls of the Dead; sending forth power, shrouding with darkness, binding the souls of the children of men; sending the darkness, binding the soul force; director of negative to the children of men.
The Root Chakra awakening: “Dying then living for love.”
Aquarius 30° The field of Ardath in bloom
This is a symbol of the spiritual integrity of nature herself, dramatized by Marie Corelli’s mystic meadow of ancient Babylon as an ageless and special challenge to modern life. Everyone may count on the inherent friendliness of the universe, and in consequence on the capacity of man’s destiny to endow him with fruits of his good rather than his bad works. The individual ultimately must rely on the world in which he finds himself, and so should live in such fashion that a reliance on him in turn is both possible and inviting.
The keyword is CONTINUITY.
When positive, the degree is self-illumination through exceptional service to others, and when negative, witless reaction to fantasy.
FOUR is he who looses the power. Lord, he, of Life to the children of men. Light is his body, flame is his countenance; freer of souls to the children of men.
The Sacral Chakra awakening: “Throwing our hearts in the ring.”
This is a symbol of a complete lack of personal sensitiveness. There are here the raw elements of experience, primarily on the side of self-realization as man exhibits full confidence in his own powers and seeks the support of that audience the world will always provide for the spectacle when anyone is willing to risk his major fruits of achievement. Implicit in the symbolism is a need to be up and at the business of life.
The keyword is EXERTION.
When positive, the degree is a mobilization of the self’s capacities in a concentrated attempt at self-establishment, and when negative, blind rebellion and a willingness to squander every resource on pseudo values.
FIVE is the master, the Lord of all magic – Key to The Word that resounds among men.
The Solar Plexus Chakra awakening: “Now go and make it better.”
Gemini 13˚ A great musician at his piano
This is a symbol of individual artistry as the property of all, with its expression both its strength and the means whereby others are encouraged to like accomplishment. Here is experience at a climax on the side of self-refinement in skills and talent, and at a peak in its gratification and its promise of continuing effort and sharing of rewards. A continually expanded dimension of being becomes the constant revelation of man’s true estate.
The keyword is ACHIEVEMENT.
When positive, the degree is the creative assurance which contributes enduring overtones to human understanding, and when negative, self-defeat through a delight in momentary attention or superficial adulation.
SIX is the Lord of Light, the hidden pathway, path of the souls of the children of men.
The Heart Chakra awakening: “With appropriate action.”
Leo 4° A man formally dressed and a deer with its horns folded
This is a symbol of self-assertion at a point of effective impact on the world, dramatized here on the side of an established and everyday reality. Formality becomes a magical ordering of the automatisms of lesser things, enlisting them in an enduring service to each individual’s more outstanding talents. His achievements become evident in the trophies by which he makes his consistent contribution of the real essence of himself to his fellows.
The keyword is MORALE.
When positive, the degree is exceptional capacity for winning and holding the esteem of men, and when negative, dependence on applause and a playing to the gallery to get it.
SEVEN is he who is Lord of the vastness, master of Space and the key of the Times.
The Throat Chakra awakening: “How you treat others matters.”
Virgo 25° A flag at half-mast
This is a symbol of the inevitable judgment which life must pronounce on itself, and of the sure rewards that stand ready for whatever proves of worth in the course of effort. The highest of everyday values for the common man are created in a public service which has its first compensation in the individual’s self-fulfillment, and its ultimate justification in some measure of immortal contribution to history. Reputation is the subtle coin by which personality creates an enduring wealth for everyone, to be preserved no less in death than life.
The keyword is RESPECT.
When positive, the degree is achievement in a full transcendence of selfhood, and when negative, superficial self-dramatization.
EIGHT is he who orders the progress; weighs and balances the journey of men.
The Third Eye Chakra awakening: “Time you got to know your heart.”
Scorpio 17° A woman the father of her own child
This is a symbol of the eternal conflict between the practical involvements and the ideal potentialities of human nature, as here emphasized in man’s conscious individuality. The soul feels the weight of its transient responsibilities while the indwelling and immortal spirit is sensitive to its need for an enduring place in the scheme of things. The recurrent virgin birth of self is its reconciliation with its world through their common center or reality.
The keyword is NUCLEATION.
When positive, the degree is an illimitable self-potentiality with effective spiritual or ideal as well as practical or everyday orientations, and when negative, a characteristically anarchistic self-sufficiency.
NINE is the father, vast he of countenance, forming and changing from out of the formless.
The Crown Chakra awakening: “Blend in perfect harmony.”
Capricorn 8° Birds in the house singing happily
This is a symbol of the descent of spirit or intelligence into every last ramification of everyday reality, and of man’s self-fulfillment as he is successful in shaping circumstances or precipitating events so that they become the ultimate and outward revelation of that higher vision by which he continues to be himself at core. Here is the actual and impregnable independence of the individual, evident as at length he is able to make his world his own and call on all to share it with him.
The keyword is ESTABLISHMENT.
When positive, the degree is an insatiable urge to put everything to use and to employ every least talent of self, and when negative, idle narcissism.
Meditate on the symbols I give thee. Keys are they, though hidden from men.
Reach ever upward, O Soul of the morning. Turn thy thoughts upward to Light and to Life. Find in the keys of the numbers I bring thee, light on the pathway from life unto life.
Seek thee with wisdom. Turn thy thoughts inward. Close not thy mind to the flower of Light.
Place in thine body a thought-formed picture. Think of the numbers that lead thee to Life.
Clear is the pathway to he who has wisdom. Open the door to the Kingdom of Light.
Pour forth thy flame as a Sun of the morning. Shut out the darkness and live in the day.
Take thee, O man! As part of thy being, the Seven who are but are not as they seem. Opened, O man! Have I my wisdom. Follow the path in the way I have led.
Masters of Wisdom, SUN of the MORNING LIGHT and LIFE to the children of men.
“Dying then living for love.”
