Let us proceed to a study of this day’s septenary or 7-fold geometric model of the Sabian symbols, which constitutes a mandala of 360 astrological degrees as developed by Dr. Marc Edmund Jones in collaboration with and channeled by Elsie May Wheeler in the spring of 1925.* Additionally, by utilizing the ancient esoteric writing, The Emerald Tablet, Tablet III by Thoth, we adopt a ready and constant framework for our deeper reflections. The chakra system is also made available for the additional insights it may provide; the geometric designs provided are based on the work of Frank Chester and may be used to cut out and assemble a Chestahedron for meditation.

Man is a star bound to a body, until in the end, he is freed through his strife. Only by struggle and toiling thine utmost shall the star within thee bloom out in new life. Wisdom cometh to all her children even as they cometh unto wisdom. All through the ages, the light has been hidden. Awake, O man, and be wise.

Before the Lords of hidden Amenti learned I the wisdom I give unto men. Masters are they of the great Secret Wisdom, brought from the future of infinity’s end. Seven are they, the Lords of Amenti, overlords they of the Children of Morning, Suns of the Cycles, Masters of Wisdom. Formed are not they as the children of men? Three, Four, Five and Six, Seven, Eight, Nine are the titles of the Masters of men.

Far from the future, formless yet forming, came they as teachers for the children of men. Live they forever, yet not of the living, bound not to life and yet free from death. Rule they forever with infinite wisdom, bound yet not bound to the dark Halls of Death. Life they have in them, yet life that is not life, free from all are the Lords of the ALL.

Forth from them came forth the Logos, instruments they of the power o’er all. Vast is their countenance, yet hidden in smallness, formed by a forming, known yet unknown.

THREE holds the key of all hidden magic, creator he of the halls of the Dead; sending forth power, shrouding with darkness, binding the souls of the children of men; sending the darkness, binding the soul force; director of negative to the children of men.

This is a symbol of potentiality caught and held through an initial and effective appreciation, here dramatized by man’s capacity for giving each nascent possibility of character a chance to prove itself. The human soul is a consistent manifestation of its own special genius from the very beginning, and the individual first finds himself in the early and transcendental perspectives of immaturity.

The keyword is ELEVATION.

When positive, the degree is an unconditioned creativity exalted to the point of complete freedom from any immediate involvement, and when negative, psychological witlessness and a false sense of release from responsibility.

FOUR is he who looses the power. Lord, he, of Life to the children of men. Light is his body, flame is his countenance; freer of souls to the children of men.

Leo 14° The human soul awaiting opportunity for expression

This is a symbol of life’s normal expectation on the personal or subjective side, and of the totally unconditioned potential of self at its point of entrance into each new complex of activity with its fellows. Here all the ramifications of man’s promise are made ready for any or every refinement of immediate value, and his skills and talents are given a special sensitiveness to the momentary nuances of his individual aspiration.

The keyword is INGENUOUSNESS.

When positive, the degree is a genius for an absolute wholeheartedness of participation in the everyday adventures of personality, and when negative, naïve procrastination and a lack of all genuine interest or enthusiasm.

FIVE is the master, the Lord of all magic – Key to The Word that resounds among men.

Libra 6° The ideals of a man abundantly crystallized

This is a symbol of experience as the practical or everyday substantiation of inner insight and conscious understanding. Idealistic reality is found to be sheer escapism if ever taken by itself or given any authority on its own account, but is the sole dynamic for the human spirit whenever any individual actually stands face to face with his opportunity. Implicit here is the realization that man’s being has its beginning in the meaning with which it is endowed.

The keyword is PERSONIFICATION.

When positive, the degree is power through the full employment of imagination for the discovery and development of human potentiality, and when negative, self-defeat through inadequate expectation and superficial allegiances.

SIX is the Lord of Light, the hidden pathway, path of the souls of the children of men.

The Heart Chakra awakening:  “Getting choked up over it?”

Scorpio 27° A military band on the march

This is a symbol of the human spirit’s continual desire to avoid everyday trivialities and drabness, ever pressing on toward some goal which can become a basis for a more enduring and individual reality. The blare of self-affirmation is a rejection of the lesser experience which brings only a self-satiety, and its martial nature arises from the realization that things of worth must be gained at the price of a thoroughly self-mobilized effort.

The keyword is INTREPIDITY.

When positive, the degree is a dramatic capacity for drawing events to a focus and directing their course successfully to what might have seemed impossible ends, and when negative, foolhardy self-exploitation.

SEVEN is he who is Lord of the vastness, master of Space and the key of the Times.

The Throat Chakra awakening:  “Identify your ideal.”

Capricorn 18° The Union Jack

This is a symbol of the maximum protection which life at large will provide for the individual in general, here given emphasis on the social or political side. There are always high rewards for common effort, since the organized nation is able to bring benefits to man beyond anything any person or group could ever win in a lesser dimension of enterprise. A greater community of interest is exalted through every possible phase of normal and everyday being.

The keyword is SUPERVISION.

When positive, the degree is the self’s ever-widening spread of interest in its insatiable desire to leave some permanent imprint of itself on everything it touches, and when negative, smug or strong-armed paternalism.

EIGHT is he who orders the progress; weighs and balances the journey of men. 

The Third Eye Chakra awakening:  “Relying on our guidance.”

Pisces 10° An aviator in the clouds

This is a symbol of man’s transcendental powers of comprehension, emphasized here in his exploratory genius and his gift for creating the endless hypotheses he needs for solving the problems of a modern world. He is able to take a perspective superior to any involvement or pattern of limitation, and to examine any special complex of human affairs with a consistent thoroughness of over-view. The inner and outer realms of reality are brought to a point of effective revelation of each other.

The keyword is OBSERVATION.

When positive, the degree is special competence in whole judgment and long-range planning, and when negative, insensate otherworldliness or irresponsible isolationism.

NINE is the father, vast he of countenance, forming and changing from out of the formless. 

The Crown Chakra awakening: “Labor with your heart and soul.”

Taurus 1° A clear mountain stream

This is a symbol of the individual spirit in its irrepressibility, and of the purity and excellence of its real sources of strength. Here man is freed from any necessity to meet the superficial limitations of life in any particular way or to conform to any pattern of events except as there is a genuine contribution to an ultimate goal. The self possesses illimitable depths on which to draw in any special emergency, and holds to an over-all consistency in its self-expression.

The keyword is RESOURCEFULNESS.

When positive, the degree is high achievement through an unswerving fidelity to some definite course of action, and when negative, a tendency to waste the potentialities of being by aimless self-ramifications.

Meditate on the symbols I give thee. Keys are they, though hidden from men.
